A Canadian First: New service gives travellers access to complimentary e-books and music

TORONTO, Feb. 24, 2015 /CNW/ - An entertaining new benefit has just touched down at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The latest offering in the two year old partnership between American Express Canada and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), Entertainment on Cloud 10™ provides eBook and music downloads to travellers flying through Toronto Pearson. Travellers can download a wide range of complimentary eBooks and songs from the Entertainment on Cloud 10 website* from various genres through partnerships with HarperCollins Canada and Sony Music Canada.

Entertainment on Cloud 10 is the first of its kind in a Canadian airport, and another addition to the roster of Cloud 10™benefits offered at Toronto Pearson through the American Express Canada partnership with the GTAA. Focused on creating an enhanced travel experience for both American Express Cardmembers and for all travellers, the Cloud 10 benefits include complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the airport and a Re-vesting area for all travellers. Select American Express Cardmembers also have access to benefits such as the Pearson Priority Security Lanes, Plaza Premium Lounge Access, Priority Taxi and Limo Lane, Complimentary Valet Service, and discounts on Parking and Car Care.

"We've enjoyed a great partnership with the GTAA in terms of providing an end-to-end premium travel experience. With today's announcement we're going to give travellers a taste of what we do for our Cardmembers every day – provide access to great entertainment," says David Barnes, Vice President, Advertising and Communications at American Express Canada. "We're well known for providing our Cardmembers Front Of The Line™ access when it comes to concerts and theatre and other entertainment experiences. This is a new way to bring that benefit to life in a completely different environment."

According to a new survey conducted by American Express Canada, Canadians are planning multiple trips to the airport, with one third (31%) of travellers making three or more trips by air per year.  The survey also finds 82 per cent of Canadian travellers are often looking for ways to pass the time when travelling through airports and 89 per cent are looking for ways to make waiting at airports more enjoyable.

"We are passionate about our passengers and are committed to enhancing their experience through partnerships with trusted brands, like American Express Canada," says Scott Collier, Vice President of Customer and Terminal Services at the GTAA. "The Cloud10 benefits offer our passengers a premium travel experience, which is what travellers deserve and have come to associate with American Express. Entertainment on Cloud 10 takes the customer's experience in Terminal l to a whole new level, and we're proud to be the first airport in Canada to provide a service like this."

Research shows that 76 per cent of Canadians (at least) sometimes read while travelling and that more than a third (37%) prefer mystery and crime novels as their favourite vacation genre. Nearly all Canadians (87%) travel with a device they can use for music, such as a smartphone or an MP3 player. Tellingly, 82 per cent of Canadian travellers agree they'd take advantage of access to complimentary e-books and music downloads at airports if they had access to it.

Content available to travellers through Entertainment on Cloud 10 includes novels like Us by David Nicholls and Betrayers by David Bezmozgis. It also features popular songs from artists like Calvin Harris, One Direction, Carrie Underwood, Hozier, George Ezra, Mark Ronson, Brad Paisley and more. All eBooks and song titles are refreshed monthly.

We will be rolling out Entertainment on Cloud 10 beginning today, and the rollout will take place over coming weeks so the service will be available to all travellers in time for March break travel.

*Travellers can access the Entertainment on Cloud 10™ through complimentary wi-fi, courtesy of American Express, at Terminal 1, or through their personal data services throughout the airport.

Methodology
From January 21 to January 26, 2015 an online survey was conducted among 675 randomly selected Canadian adults who travelled by air in the past 12 months either for business or personal reasons and who are Angus Reid Forum panellists. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.
